Getting comfortable taking up space
About me
Hi! I'm Katie Palmer. I graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2019 with a degree in English and environmental studies. On campus, I fell in love with poetry, and always knew I'd want to write a book someday.
Now, my first book is complete [subs sent out, wish me luck] and I'm having a blast publishing poems in journals and magazines. On my site, I'll share new published poems, along with some snippets of unpublished pieces. I also plan on sharing about my writing journey and process!
3 NEW POEMS
Sweet Tooth for the Constellations
Sprinkle stardust on my sundae,
counting all the ways I can fill my belly
with sweetness. Someone bit the moon
like an apple, but the leftovers
are my cherry on top,
moonlight, my hot fudge
scooping up every last cloud that passes,
lavender-flavored with a drop of honey.
I need all the sugar I can swallow,
the kind of treat I want
to savor, fall into a slumber
while I lick my teeth.
1 NEW POEM
Nature's Litany
They say “finding yourself” like you’ve got a map
with red pins; in each location, you’ll find a new
piece of yourself. I’m discovering myself
without ever leaving
my front porch. South Ave feels like
a fairy tale and the white flowers
look like tiny angels, kneeling,
praying on the branches.
I’ve never been able to get high enough
to know how sweet the blooms smell.
One time I got so high, the old tree
told me it loved me.
